Featured Humane Society: Natchitoches Humane Society

The Natchitoches Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) federal tax exempt non-profit organization that was formed in 1972. They work with the Natchitoches Animal Shelter and breed specific rescue groups to place dogs and cats in permanent homes. In 2009 they built their own shelter, Happy Tails, on the grounds of the Natchitoches Detention Center. Using funds from grants, inmates are trained by professional dog trainers who in turn train the dogs that reside at Happy Tails. Their mission is to relieve suffering and prevent cruelty to animals, provide care and treatment for animals needing protection, return lost animals to their owners and find suitable homes for homeless animals.
